ETP4HPC and PRACE join forces at EXDCI HPC Workshop in Rome

From 29 to 30 September 2015, Rome will be the venue of a joint HPC workshop organised by the project EXDCI. For the first time PRACE, ETP4HPC, the Centres of Excellence (CoE) and the FETHPC projects come together in a single event, to understand the working of and create a basis for the co-ordination of the entire European HPC ecosystem.

Telethon and Cineca: together to exploit the research

On 21 July 2015, Cineca and Fondazione Telethon signed a collaboration agreement that will provide Telethon researchers with highly advanced high performance computing (HPC) infrastructure, storage facilities, data management services and analysis tools for the next three years.

Cineca is present at the EMO conference

Italy will host the 2015 edition of EMO. Promoted by CECIMO, European Association of the Machine Tool Industries, the world machine tool exhibition will take place October 5-10 in Milan. Cineca will be present at CECIMO booth and at the CECIMO European Research and Innovation Conference on Friday, 9 October. The participation is free. Registration before 30 September.

PRACE Preparatory Access Call for Tier-0

CINECA invites all interested scientists, whose projects fit the criteria of the PRACE call, to submit their projects. Preparatory access is intended for testing and developing codes in order to prepare applications for PRACE Tier-0 project access. Preparatory Access Type C includes code development with support from PRACE experts. The next cut-off date is September 7th, 2015.

PRACE call: big success of the Italian scientific community

The 11th PRACE Regular Call for Proposals yielded 107 eligible proposals of which 18 were awarded for a total of more than 500 million core hours. The 18 awarded projects are led by P. I. from 7 different European countries. 6 awarded projects have PI from Italy (33% of projects) for a total of 260 million core hours (50% of hours).

FERMI for 3 years among the highest positions in the TOP500

The Italian supercomputer FERMI, IBM Blue Gene/Q, is now number 32 in the June 2015 Top500 list. Fermi, available to the Italian and European scientific community by ISCRA and PRACE, was installed at Cineca in June 2012. Two Cineca systems, FERMI and Galileo, are ranked in the list.

THOR selected as candidate for ESA's next mission

THOR, the Turbulence Heating ObserveR, is a mission proposal in response to ESA M4 call to address one of the most fundamental but also one of the least understood physical processes in the universe: turbulent energy dissipation and particle energization. THOR uses the HVM (hybrid Vlasov-Maxwell) fully parallelized code, that for over 10 years runs on the Fermi @ CINECA.
