Eurotech Eurora, the PRACE prototype deployed by Cineca and INFN, #1 in Green500 list, reaches its complete configuration, as planned in the PRACE roadmap: 64 nodes with two Intel Xeon E5-2687W CPUs and 128 accelerators: 32 nodes equipped with two NVIDIA Tesla K20 cards and 32 nodes equipped with two Intel Xeon Phi cards.

Scalability Improvements for DFT Codes due to the Implementation of the 2D Domain Decomposition Algorithm
We will present part of the work carried out by CINECA in the framework of the PRACE-2IP project aimed to study the effect on performance due to the implementation of a 2D Domain Decomposition algorithm in DFT codes that usestandard 1D (or slab) Parallel Domain Decomposition. The performance of this new algorithm are tested on two example applications: Quantum Espresso and the CFD code BlowupNS.

Project EMI helps the Higgs Boson discovery
EMI is a joint effort of the major European distributed computing middleware providers (ARC, dCache, gLite, and UNICORE). This initiative introduces in Europe and beyond new functionality to satisfy user requirements specifically in: security, compute, data and information systems.
CINECA supported the development of UNICORE components within EMI and contributed to the EMI release management.

Eurotech Eurora, the PRACE prototype deployed by Cineca and INFN, scores first in Green500 list
Cineca is proud to announce that the Eurora supercomputer was ranked 1st in the June 2013 Green500 chart, with measured 3210 MFlop/s per Watt. Outstanding result for Eurotech (ranked also number 2 with Aurora Tigon), for Cineca and also for the national research centers, INFN, OGS, CNR and SISSA, that collaborated actively with Cineca testing the system.

FERMI ranked very high in the newly published TOP500 list of June 2013
The Italian supercomputer FERMI, IBM Blue Gene/Q, available to the Italian and European scientific community by ISCRA and PRACE, is now number 12 in the June 2013 Top500.
Three Cineca systems, FERMI, PLX and the new EURORA prototype are ranked in the list.
